Lois Weiner, author of the new book The Future of Our Schools: Teachers Unions and Social Justice (Haymarket Press), will visit Miami University to talk about her work on teacher union activism. Lois Weiner is Professor in the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education at New Jersey City University where she teaches courses in social foundations of education and curriculum and instruction and coordinates the MA in Urban Education/ Teaching and Learning in Urban Schools. Weiner is a life-long teacher union activist and educator, and has been an officer of three union locals. With Mary Compton she co-edited The Global Assault on Teaching, Teachers, and Their Unions: Stories for Resistance (Palgrave, 2008). Internationally known for her work on urban teacher education, she received the American Educational Research Association (AERA) award for research on teacher education for her book, "Preparing teachers for urban schools."
