When There Are No Words Yet There Are Words: Writing as a Response to Trauma/Responding to Writing About Trauma
This workshop will explore trauma as a concept and a quality of classroom topics and readings. What problems do instructors encounter when students read narratives of trauma or encounter material that touches on difficult personal experiences? How does the concept of trauma bear upon the teaching of history, narrative, and personal experience? The presenters will offer examples of assignments, responses to student writing, methods of discussion, and general advice about dealing with trauma as a personal and historical phenomenon.
