Registration will begin at 11:30am - Please bring your registration ticket Lunch will be served at 12:00pmWorkshop will begin promptly at 12:45pm WORKSHOP PURPOSEThe overall purpose of the workshop is to assist health service providers in acquiring basic demographic, historical and cultural information about Aboriginal people in Ontario, with an emphasis on the health status of urban Aboriginal people.  WORKSHOP GOALThe overall goal of the workshop is to provide participants with the basic understanding of how to interact with Aboriginal communities and Aboriginal health and social service organizations/agencies in the Hamilton Niagara Haldimand Brant Local Health Integrated Network (HNHB LHIN), which will eventually lead to increased cultural competency.  WORKSHOP OBJECTIVESThe overall objectives of this half-day workshop are to: ·        Provide an overall perspective of Aboriginal people in Ontario through current demographics, various First Nations, Metis, Inuit, Aboriginal communities and realties; ·        Review key historic markers including treaties have impacted Aboriginal peoples and communities and that how that transitions and affects health status; ·        Explore how individuals can begin to practice cultural competency; ·        Explore how organizations and agencies can begin to engage with Aboriginal peoples and Aboriginal organizations to provide relevant services by identifying barriers to service; ·        Begin to enhance cultural competency and quality of engagement and consultation with Aboriginal people and organizations.  Register Here 0.00
