iPhone 5 wait over for many

Staff Report

MIAMI VALLEY —

People across the globe have eagerly awaited the arrival of Apple’s latest piece of technology, the iPhone 5, which is being released across the United States today.

Dreatha Dozier Cockrell, of Dayton, has been waiting outside the AT&T store on Miamisburg-Centerville Road since around 7:45 p.m. Thursday. “I wanted to see how it was going to be,” she said. “I don’t even know how to use it.” Cockrell said she is waiting with her grandson, who hopes to get his hands on the device around 8 a.m., when the AT&T store opens its doors for business.

Just last week, Apple announced it had more than two million pre-orders for the iPhone 5 within 24 hours, more than double the previous one million set by the iPhone 4S.

According to Apple, the demand for the new iPhone 5 exceeds the inital supply and while the majority of pre-orders will be delivered to customers on September 21, many are scheduled to be delivered in October.

The iPhone 5 is the thinnest and lightest iPhone ever, according to a release from Apple. The device features a new 4-inch Retina display.
